TOWN BD WORK SESSIONS SHOULD BE TELEVISED
Release Date: June 26, 2007

I read, with interest, Francis Sheehan's latest e mails regarding the Town Board work session. The member of the public who audiotaped part/all of the work session is a long time supporter of Mr. Sheehan. There is no way of knowing if the tape that is being transcribed contains the entire transcript.
This controversy highlights the need for the Town Board to start televising Town Board work sessions in its entirety. The public has a right to know what is happening at Town Board work sessions--who said what. Agendas of work sessions should also be posted a few days before the meeting starts (instead of a few hours before the meeting) so that residents who are interested in finding out what is on the agenda can decide if they want to attend the work session or watch the meeting on TV (if my recommendation is adopted). I am suggesting that work session agendas be finalized the Friday before the Tuesday work session. We need a more open government -- we need to stop the personal attacks.
