l/22 MORATORIUM ON DEVELOPMENT EXTENDED TO MAY 1,2003 BY UNANIMOUS VOTE OF TOWN BOARD

Town to sponsor regional meeting on Wicks law Thursday, March l3 at 8 PM. Town Board voted to ask State Senator Nick Spano and Assemblyman Richard Brodsky to introduce legislation exempting the town from the Wicks law requirements for Town Hall/library expansion projects. If the Wicks law is repealed or if the town receives an exemption from the law we could save millions of dollars. The state of NY currently REQUIRES GOVERNMENTS TO OVERPAY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION by as much as 30% per project. The Gannett newspapers wrote an editorial calling for the repeal of this cumbersome and wasteful law.
