Overnight work on Crane's Rd bridge...LINK TO VIDEO DISCUSSION Frank's Nursery environmental issues.
Release Date: November 18, 2014

OVERNIGHT WORK TONIGHT
Unavoidable Overnight Demolition Activities for the Crane Road Bridge over the MTA Metro-North Harlem Line Railroad has started and will last a few weeks...
Demolition of the portion of the Crane Road Bridge over the Metro-North Railroad resumed on Monday November 17 and last approximately 3 to 4 weeks, with a short hiatus around the Thanksgiving Holiday.  All demolition that can be completed safely during daytime hours will be accomplished during the day but, based on Metro-North Railroad safety requirements and restrictions, significant amounts of the demolition work must be done at night when no trains are running (typically between the hours of 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM).   Some weekend night work is also expected to occur.
It is expected that the nighttime noise levels will decrease as the work progresses with the loudest activities occurring during the 1st two or three nights as concrete encasement is removed from the south fascia girder.  After that the concrete stringers and concrete bridge deck will be demolished. This will be followed by removal of the steel floor beams and steel girders with an extremely large crane.  Lastly, the middle abutment, just west of the railroad tracks, will be removed.

LINK TO VIDEO—TOWN BOARD DISCUSSION OF FRANK’S NURSERY WITH ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTANT
The Town Board met with our environmental consultant today to discuss follow up steps that will be taken to reassure possible purchasers of Frank’s nursery that once the property is purchased that they will be able to build on it. We’re going to work with the NYS DEC –getting their buy in on cleanup plans. I  have also asked  the Commissioner of Public Works to explore with our consultant applying for state funds that may reduce cleanup costs.

Riverkeeper’s John Lipscomb used a small boat to document conditions below railroad bridges along the Hudson River – part of a network that ships massive amounts of volatile crude oil by train along the Hudson. Lipscomb photographed what he saw, and the jarring images of crumbling concrete and exposed rebar raise critical safety questions.  Highlights the need to address our crumbling infrastructure. Earlier this summer I suggested an infrastructure bond act be approved by the State Legislature to help fund state, county, and local infrastructure work.  Everyone is trying to keep tax increases as low as possible. Is infrastructure being neglected?
