Will insist on community notification before future fire works...people were scared
Release Date: May 25, 2015

SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE DUE TO FIREWORKS--WILL INSIST ON COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION BEFORE ANY FUTURE FIREWORKS
SOME RESIDENTS THOUGHT WE WERE UNDER ATTACK...

I received a number of e mails and phone calls from residents concerned about the noise, smoke shaking from the fireworks that took place tonight.  I was not  aware that a permit had been issued to Metropolis Country Club. I will request that before any fireworks permits be issued by any town department in the future that the Town Board be notified. I will also ask that we require the permit holder to place lawn signs around the immediate area in advance of the fireworks notifying neighbors at least a week before the event .  The town should also publicize the fireworks event on our e list.

Last year the town sponsored a fireworks display during family day at AF Veteran park. We placed street signs around the park a week before the fireworks and people appreciated the advance notice. And, more people enjoyed the event because they had advance notice.

I feel strongly that the community should be notified before any quality of life disruption takes place. Yesterday, for example, we placed an electronic bulletin board on E Hartsdale Ave advising motorists that there will be a parade tomorrow and that there could be traffic delays during the parade--something we had not done in years past.

THIS IS AN EXCERPT OF JUST ONE OF THE E MAILS I RECEIVED FROM A CONCERNED RESIDENT TONIGHT..."FELT LIKE I LIVED THROUGH WORLD WAR II"
For 20 minutes tonight, I felt like I lived through World War II. There were the loudest pounding and cracks of what sounded like bombs and I what came to find out were fireworks. I could smell the smoke, my townhouse and heart shook and my backyard lit up. I am not a nervous person, but it seemed so loud and close that I was quite scared and prompted to call 911, which I have never before done. I was told that it was the Metropolis Country Club and that they had a permit from the town.

ANOTHER COMPLAINT--"SOUNDED AS IF WE WERE UNDER ATTACK BY MISSILES"
Plates are shaking on the wall in Poet's Corner - the explosions are NOTHING that I have ever heard at a fireworks display. Called the police dept. and found out that is who is doing it. This needs to be re-thought. Living here 25 years and never heard anything like that - it sounded as if we were under attack by missiles.
