TODAY IS EARTH DAY! westchestersocialforum organizing event (along with nature center)
Release Date: April 22, 2018

TODAY IS EARTH DAY--AN INTERESTING IDEA: SOLAR CARPORTS...WESTCHESTERSOCIALFORUM SPONSORING EARTHDAY EVENT...NATURE CENTER HAS EVENT ON GREAT LAWN TODAY...HAVE YOU STARTED TO RECYCLE YOUR FOOD SCRAPS?  visit our food scrap recycling drop off location at AF VETERAN PARK

In recent weeks the town and Hartsdale parking district have started to consider an interesting initiative that I think makes sense. Some colleges (like Manhattanville, Michigan State University) have installed solar carports in their parking areas.  The car ports create  solar energy that could help produce energy. The town and/or parking district could generate revenue.  Also, the solar carports provide shelter for cars.  See article about an award that Michigan State University received. And- we could set an example for others. Among possible locations for a demonstration project - AF Veteran park and the roofs of the Hartsdale parking garage.  What do you think?

Delia Marx of our Human Rights Committee has asked that I advise of an event that the westchestersocialforum is organizing today at Pace University Law School. 40 local grassroots organizations, including the Greenburgh Human Rights Committee, are sponsoring the event and advocating for environmental and social issues.
