GREENBURGH ALSO WON LAST NIGHT!
Congratulations to Congresswoman Nita Lowey who won re-election yesterday and is expected to become the chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee and to Congressman Elliot Engel, who is expected to head up the House Foreign Relations Committee. State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins will be the next Majority Leader of the NYS Senate. This is great news for the town of Greenburgh. In the past, communities around the state and nation have benefitted when their representatives have held leadership positions.
FORMER HASTINGS GRADUATE AND MY TRANSITION CHAIR AS TOWN SUPERVISOR ELECTED COLORADO STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL LAST NIGHT
Phil Weiser, a graduate of Hastings High School and my first campaign manager for Greenburgh Town Supervisor (and head of my transition committee after I won the election) was elected Colorado Attorney General last night. Phil, the son and grandson of Holocaust survivors, Phil went to Law School after working with me and then went on to serve as a Law Clerk at the United States Supreme Court for Justices Byron White and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He served in President Clinton’s Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division before returning to teach as a professor at the University of Colorado Law School. There, he founded the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, litigated civil rights cases, co-chaired Governor Bill Ritter’s Innovation Council, and served on President Obama’s Transition Team, overseeing the Federal Trade Commission. He had the honor of serving in the Obama Administration as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, where he oversaw complex antitrust investigations, worked to strengthen the review of anticompetitive mergers, and spearheaded an effort to promote competition in agriculture. He also served President Obama in the White House as Senior Advisor for Technology and Innovation at the National Economic Council; in that role, Phil spearheaded what became a bipartisan effort to increase access to wireless spectrum and enable the deployment of an interoperable wireless broadband network for public safety. After returning to Colorado, Phil led the University of Colorado Law School as its Dean from 2011-16.
