IMPLEMENTING ANOTHER SAFETY FEATURE- BLINKING CROSSWALK LIGHTS NEAR SCHOOLS
Release Date: May 23, 2017

In recent years readers  have been hearing about the numerous new sidewalks that we have been constructing around the town and the future new sidewalks that we plan to build. There is nothing more important than the safety of our children.  Another safety feature we're pursuing: new pedestrian activated crosswalk lights. We installed one on East Hartsdale Ave and just installed the blinking crosswalk light at Seely Place and Ardsley Road. Yesterday the Police Chief and I decided to request New York State to authorize a crossing light on Hillside near the Bailey School.

The Seely Place and Ardsley Road crosswalk is very popular with young children who are walking on our new sidewalk connecting to the Seely Place school. The light blinks when one crosses--alerts motorists to the pedestrians.  A pedestrian activated  crosswalk light crossing Edgemont Road and Crane's pond should be installed shortly.

Suggestions for additional crossing lights are welcome. Take a look at the crossing lights that have already been installed and advise what you think.

A COMMENT FROM A COMMUNITY LEADER...
Thanks to everyone for the sidewalk, new crosswalks at both ends and
pedestrian-activated crosswalk light at Seely Pl. and Ardsley Rd.  This
morning's walk to school was the first with the crosswalk light.  I'm
told the kids were being taught to push the button.  I'm sure in a
couple of days, everyone crossing will use it. Also, the perception is
that with these improvements, there are more children walking to school.
